McAllen

Mexico

The McAllen Convention Center is only 15 minutes from Mexico, where cities founded in the 1700s offer unique shopping, excellent restaurants and an old world colonial charm. Allow plenty of time to enjoy the enticement of bustling Reynosa, or laid back Nuevo Progreso. Explore the shops and markets for their endless possibilities... jewelry, ceramics, hand woven fabrics and hand-blown glass, the unique creations of skilled Mexican craftsman. And toast the day's discoveries with a frosty margarita at a fine Reynosa restaurant.

Most visitors to McAllen are already aware that they are close to our neighbor to the South…Mexico. But many are not aware they are only a few minutes by car and you can enter a wonderful world of sights, sounds and sensations.

The city of Reynosa is the first Mexican experience for many business tourists visiting the area. It is the largest Mexican city in the Rio Grande Valley region, home to over a half million people and all of them are happy to see you.

The area is full of great attractions for the day visitor. There are hundreds of restaurants featuring Mexican fare that ranges from street-vendor tacos to haute cuisine. And shopping! Traditional mercados and a downtown variety of authentic shops offer a dazzling array of merchandise…handmade artifacts, cultural gifts and fantastic fashion bargains. When shopping is over, there are the traditional refreshment retreats where the words Tequila and Sunrise first became acquainted. And if your interest runs to sporting challenges, there is an off-track betting service where you can wager on racing and athletic contests happening on both sides of the border.

Also on just about every street corner, you will find a well-stocked farmacia (that’s a pharmacy to you and me) where brand name products from most of the major medical suppliers in the world can be found at almost unbelievable savings.

Reynosa is typical of the warm and friendly Mexican cities and villages available to visitors to McAllen. Whether you are a first time tourist or a veteran border- hopper, you will come back home with a new perspective on McAllen, the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico.

Bienvenidos!
